Some of the examples may be Android or iPhone Apps with in-app purchases for upgrades and unlocks.

Why Freemium or moving the free line works?
In his famous book Influence, Dr. Robert Cialdini talks about the power of persuasion and reciprocity is one of the factors that causes the people to repay back when a favor is done on them. In other words, people feel obligated to give something back, when they receive.
Second reason is moving the free also builds expectations about the premium product, where the consumers ask themselves, “if this stuff that is available to me for free, how great must the premium product be?”
Thus consumers feel both excited as well as indebted to buy when they have received massive value in form of a freebie. It is the old rule of Give and Take at play.
